To form ‘One Malaysia Club’ in India – Minister of Tourism, YB Dato Sri' Dr.Ng Yen Yen

The Minister of Tourism, YB Dato Sri’ Dr.Ng Yen Yen arrived in New Delhi last Sunday to promote Malaysia and launched the ‘One Malaysia’ campaign and toured five Indian cities – Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai.

During her visit to Chennai, she have addressed her interest to turn the Malaysian students as little Ambassadors to promote Malaysia as a brand for a holiday destination, either educational, cultural or social visit.
Malaysian celebrations in India should not only include the Malaysians but we should look into opening up for more of the locals to join us which will play a great role to build bridges and promote our culture and tradition to them.
With regards to this, Dr.Ng has agreed to send a dance master to train a couple of students with Tarian One Malaysia which we can utilise to demonstrate on our culture better.

Besides this, Dr Ng has also suggested the MSA to form a One Malaysia Club which will play a role to promote the Prime Minister’s missions as well as Promote Malaysia as an Endless Experience. This programme will be fully backed by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia.

Students should also look into assisting each other when there are troubles among the Malaysians and also try organizing more community service projects which will indirectly promote the objective of People 1st and Performance now, similarly with the PM’s mission of One Malaysia.

Dr.Ng Yen Yen has personally informed to convey her love and regards to ALL the Malaysian students in India. We should also start to emphasize and build the spirit of One Malaysia among every nation.

A sincere word of Thanks to Tourism Malaysia (En.Noor Arif) for extending an invitation.

Thank you & Salam One Malaysia!

Interaction Session between Students and Malaysian Agencies

An event organized by Tourism Malaysia, supported by the Malaysian Students Association of Chennai.
12th July 2009, Savera Hotel, Chennai. Tourism Malaysia organized an Interaction Session between students and Malaysian government agencies . The objective of this event was to create an awareness of the presence and the role of Malaysian Government agencies / linked companies in Chennai, to create a better relationship with the students, to emphasize the role of students as a little ambassadors to promote Malaysia on the international arena / India and etc.

The event was emceed by our very own MSA Chennai chief, Venkates Rao. The first to speak was the chief guest, Mr.Anuar Kasman, Consul General of Malaysia to South India. He informed the students that he has high hopes on the students as little ambassadors, to help promote and reviving the tourism industry of Malaysia.

Next to speak was Mdm Nithya Manoj, Sales Manager of Tourism Malaysia, Chennai. She stressed on education tourism, an industry where Tourism Malaysia is currently focusing. They are trying to promote Malaysia as the next education destination for Indians.

This was followed by the Malaysia Airlines Systems speaker, Mr Ajaez, Sales Manager of MAS. He enlightened us on the numerous value added schemes that are present in the market, such as the family package the business companion package, and weekend getaway package. We were also lucky enough to hear Mr Satheeq, Area Manager of MAS for Karnataka. He spoke about how Malaysian Hospitality takes us right from purchase up to disembarkation. Apparently there is also a special package for the Bangalore – Kuala Lumpur sector. Mr Wan Ebrahim, Area Manager of MAS for Tamil Nadu and Kerala was such a soothing character, and he mentioned that they are eveready to assist the Malaysian students in cases of excess baggage and late bookings.

Vice Consul – Trade, Mr Khaifil Elmi Jamil was the next one on the podium to talk about Matrade and its’ role. According to him, Matrade is basically positioning Malaysia as a global trading nation. Their main objective is to enhance and protect trade abroad. He urged us to return to Malaysia, serve the country and create an export volume to uplift the country’s economic state. Mr Khaifil also revealed that Malaysia is currently undergoing trade surplus, where our export exceeds our import.

The last person at the podium was Mr. Khairuddin Abdullah, who is the consul of education and training based here in Chennai. He is actually part of the Public Service Department but has been posted here to look after the general welfare of all the Malaysian students in India. He pointed out that his job is basically to strengthen the networking through activities and programmes such as the Students Leadership Convention help in Bangalore recently.

Mr Makhan Singh, Vice Consul Immigaration, added a note on how simple it is to acquire a visa to travel to Malaysia. Within 3 working days the multiple entry visa is ready for collection. This was followed by a note from Mr Kunaseelan, Consul (Labour). He urged us to be ambassadors to our beautiful country as it has much to offer to the people of India.

This was followed with a Q & A session.

Question 1: Regarding excess baggage with MAS
Answer: Mr.Wan Ebrahim – students may seek for extra baggage allowance by making a prior request to MAS.

Question 2: How can Malaysian students help to promote Malaysia in India
Answer: Mr.Anuar Kasman & Mdm.Nithya – students should look into organizing food festivals, cultural expo’s which to be held within campus.

Question 3: How does MATRADE plays a role to promote Education in Malaysia.
Answer: Mr.Khaifil – MATRADE does not promote education directly, but as it promotes the country as whole via trade industry and includes the education industry as well.

Question 4: MAS to offer special prices for Malaysian students all year round.
Answer: MAS is still working on its student package as they have yet to grasp the students needs. Meanwhile we re only directed to visit their website for the ongoing offers.

The interaction session was followed with a light refreshment and a group picture with Tourism Malaysia.

Our humble word of Thanks to Tourism Malaysia, Chennai for specially organizing an interaction session for our members in order to create a better awareness of the presence and role of Malaysian government agencies in Chennai.

What Malaysians Want....

I would like to share a wonderful article writen by Mr.Anas Zubedy:

Politicians who cooperate and compete to make Malaysia a better place.

Politicians on both sides oppose one another but they are not enemies.

Both sides are working for the same cause—a better Malaysia. Both sides are entrusted by the rakyat to ensure an improved future for a peaceful nation.

It is about the rakyat and the country not party politics.

Politics is neutral; it is politicians that make it good or bad.Political parties are just platforms. If politicians do not practice good values, the rakyat will be disillusioned with politics. If politicians practice good values the rakyat will view politics positively. Politicians, please act with care.

There must be a spirit of cooperation within the framework of competition. Work with the legacy passed to you, take the positives and negatives without attachment and *Define what you need to do. Envision a better future and take necessary Actions. Reflect and provide hope.

Do not blame others, do your job and above all else, make sure your own people are first-rate. Focus on internal organization and don’t poke holes on the other side. Great leaders win by strengthening their own team.

We believe at the heart, all Malaysians want good things for themselves and for their brother and sister Malaysians, simply because our nation cannot prosper as a whole if some of us are left behind. Regardless of race and politics, all Malaysians want our politicians to cooperate and compete to make Malaysia a better place.

Brother and sister Malaysians, let’s work together to create competitive politics within the spirit of cooperation.

Envoy Tells Students To Promote Malaysia In India

By P.Vijian

BANGALORE, May 5 (Bernama) -- "Interact, socialise and learn" were some of the inspiring words from Malaysian High Commissioner to India Datuk Tan Seng Sung to some 120 Malaysian student representatives in India.

He advised them to discard their introvert attitude, adopt a friendly mindset and be ready to promote multicultural Malaysia to the outside world.

"You are representatives of our country. Be more sociable and interact more, tell others about Malaysia. Use this platform to exchange experiences and views," Tan said in his opening speech at the inaugural three-day Malaysian Students' Leadership Convention 2009 here.

Over 120 Malaysian student representatives from 23 institutions across India are attending the leadership convention organised by the Public Service Department to promote student unity and instill leadership qualities.

An estimated 1,800 Malaysians are currently studying in India, largely in southern India, where many are pursuing courses in health sciences and engineering.

Meanwhile, Khairudin Abudullah, Malaysian Consul (Education) in Chennai, who was in charge of organising the event, said the seminar was to create a platform for students to interact with other Malaysians.

"We want to bring all Malaysian students under one umbrella. Our aim is to promote leadership awareness and allow them the space to express their views, and share their experiences in India," he added.

During the dialogue session, the students wanted to know about employment opportunities in Malaysia upon their return, especially medical and dentistry students, and some were keen to know about the political developments in Malaysia.

A proposal was also made to set up a Malaysia House for students India.

'One Malaysia. People first. Perform Now....!

This was quoted by the new Prime Minister, YAB Dato Seri' Najib Tun Razak and im really impressed with the quote.

In order to make it a reality, its not the Prime Minister alone but i believe everyone should equally play a role, especially the YOUNG leaders of the country.

'One Malaysia' its not a responsibility of one man but WE, Malaysians should together join hands to potray ourself as Bangsa Malaysia for the One Malaysia.

Its been a good start so far since the 6th Prime Minister took over to lead the country and below i reproduce the Prime Minister's maiden address:

PRIME MINISTER’S ADDRESS ON ASSUMING OFFICE AS
6TH PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA
3 APRIL 2009
-------------------------

On behalf of all Malaysians, I would like to thank YABhg. Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for his 31 years of exemplary public service to our country, his commitment to strengthening the institutions and fabric of our democracy and for his graceful example as our leader.
I am grateful to YABhg. Tun for his confidence in proposing my name as Prime Minister to Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and I am honoured that His Majesty has consented to my appointment with this morning’s swearing-in ceremony. I feel a deep sense of humility at the opportunity to serve as your Prime Minister at an important time in our nation's history. My life has been dedicated to public service. Growing up, I was inspired by the positive impact of public service in the example of my late father. Four decades on, I remain committed to the goals of tackling poverty; of restructuring our society; of expanding access to quality education for all; and of inspiring a new generation of young Malaysians to work on behalf of this great country. My own service in government has always been about getting results: to ensure a better deal for teachers, to improve conditions for our brave soldiers, and to strengthen our economy in defence of the people of Malaysia, as we deal with the outbreak of a global recession.

In the coming weeks, I will be consulting with people around our country, as I begin to reshape the leadership and priorities of the Government. I am mindful that we should build on the successes and lessons of the past. It must be a government with new approaches for new times – a government that places a priority on performance, because the people must come first.
We must reach out to all parts of Malaysia…to all our diverse communities. In our national discourse and in pursuing our national agenda, we must never leave anyone behind. We must reach out to the many who may have been disaffected and left confused by political games, deceit and showmanship.

We must draw on talented people across our nation, regardless of their position or background, to re-energize a passion for public service. We must sow the seeds of goodwill and understanding in every corner of this land, so that we continue to harvest the fruits of progress and prosperity for all Malaysians.

We must seek to include and unlock the potential of our young people who will be the next generation of leaders, businesspeople, engineers, scientists, teachers and doctors. We must give them wings to fly.

And so today, I pledge that I will work tirelessly to serve all of you.
In this spirit, I would like to announce that the government has decided with immediate effect, to remove the temporary ban on TWO news publications, release 13 detainees from ISA detention, and conduct a comprehensive review of the Internal Security Act. Additional details will be announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs shortly.

These decisions are timely as we move to enhance the confidence of our citizens in those entrusted with maintaining peace, law and order, while recognizing the need to remain vigilant of the very real security threats we continue to face as a young nation.

I know that for every citizen, these are hard times and I remain focused in providing strong leadership to lead us out of this economic crisis and unleash our full potential as a nation. I will be steadfast in my commitment to meet the needs, aspirations and concerns of all Malaysians.

So today I ask you to join me in this task of renewing Malaysia. I urge us to rise to the challenge of building a One Malaysia. People First. Performance Now.

Let us begin this great journey together.

Malaysians Students Jam @ Pelita Nasi Kandar

A gathering organized by the Malaysian Students Association of Chennai

Date: 15th March 2009
Time: 12 noon
Venue: Pelita Nasi Kandar, T Nagar.

It was a crisp morning, and the atmosphere was perfect for a casual meet up at the neighbourhood mamak, for a cup of teh tarik, and probably some nasi kandar. Being in Chennai, the neighbourhood mamak is of course, Pelita Nasi Kandar, the usual Malaysian hangout.

Organized by Sangeetha, who leads the student affairs and welfare bureau of the Malaysian Students Association of Chennai, the gathering was more of a laid back get-together for all the Malaysian students to meet and interact.

The crowd started trickling in at about 12.30 or so, and there was a pleasant surprise waiting for all of us. Dato Ramesh, director of Pelita Nasi Kandar, happened to be in town. He bumped into us and looking at the crowd of hungry students, he spontaneously said that he will host the lunch, and all of us had nasi kandar, on the house! Not to mention ice kacang as dessert to top that!

The students were from all over Chennai, from universities such as Saveetha Dental College, Ragas Dental Collge, Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Sri Ramacanchra Medical College, St Joseph College and Loyola College. There were also students from VInayaka Missions University in Salem and Manipal Medical College as well as NIT, Trichy.

It felt like we were all back home, catching up with friends, over some nasi kandar. The mood was lively with students getting to know each other and some were just happy to release some steam from the hectic college life that we all lead. After devouring the oh-so-delicious lunch laid out in front of us, some of the students left while others stayed on to continue socialize. It came to a point where we were asked to leave the upstairs area and move downstairs as they had to clean up the mess we created.

The lepak-ing continued with more teh tarik and stories outside, as Pelita is the only place in Chennai where we can stay on for hours and simply enjoy the Malaysian air. Then the crowd started to disburse, leaving the key people of MSA Chennai to do their post mortem about the day’s gathering. Everyone left Pelita with a sense of satisfaction, and a sense of joy of having met fellow Malaysians.

"Lets Spread The LOVE".......

‘Let’s Spread the Love....'
A community service project by Malaysian Students Association of India & Putera MIC India

Date: 22nd Feb 2009
Time: 2pm – 6pm
Venue: Bala Mandir Kids Home, T Nagar, Chennai

This event which was initially supposed to be held on Valentines Day had been brought forward to the 22nd of Feb due to the protests in the city. As the bulk of the crowd seemed to have problems locating the home and were delayed, those who were there on time started off with an ice breaker. We mingled with the kids and played a few games and got to know them. They opened up quickly and warmed up in no time.

The event then started off with the kids being divided into a few groups as there were 60 kids who were about 5 to 10 years of age. Each group had a few volunteers with at least one Tamil speaking volunteer. However, this could not last as the kids were getting agitated. So, all the groups were combined. A couple of games were played, including passing the parcel. The kids were really excited to see balloons and they all seemed to want more and more balloons so a game was played to see who could blow the biggest balloon. It continued with the paper dance game. The kids’ hidden talents really came out in this came and we saw many potential dancers in the crowd. The best part was trying to get the kids to grasp the concept of this game, as most of them seemed a tad bit preoccupied. However, with all our help, they managed to get the game moving.

This was followed by a wonderful dance performance by the kids. They danced for two songs and watching them perform for us really put a smile on everyone’s face. The songs they danced to were reflections of the Hindu Gods and Goddesses. To watch these kids endure so much hardship and yet dance to the glory of God was quite a sight.

Then it was our turn. Devi from Saveetha University performed a traditional Indian dance, much to all the kids’ delight. This was followed by the souvenir presentation of a stationery set by Major Maniam, President of MASI & Mrs. We then took a group photograph of all the volunteers and the kids at the main compound of the home. We stumbled upon the younger kids who were out for the evening, and they simply melted everyone’s hearts!

We then retreated into the home once again where refreshments were being served. One of the kids was unaware that we were getting refreshments as well, and she offered what little food she had to one of the volunteers. That was a humbling moment. Despite the fact that these kids had so little, they were still willing to share. It’s funny how young adults can learn so much from a group of kids without roofs over their heads.

More food stuff was distributed to the kids, courtesy of a few of the volunteers and donors.. The kids were over the moon when they saw the pudding and nata de coco, biscuits, chocolates, and etc. They were also given crayons for them to bring out the van Gogh. This was followed by a treat by the kids for our birthday boy, Venkates Rao, who was coincidentally celebrating his birthday on that very day. Then it was time for the kids to leave the hall and return to their dorms. We gave them a good farewell and sent them off.

Among those who were kind enough to come were Major Maniam and his family, Mr Lim and students from various universities in Chennai such as Meenakshi , Saveetha & Ragas Dental College. The group from Sri Ramachandra Medical College formed the bulk of the crowd and they did an amazing job at organizing the events of the day. “The main objective of this project is to mold and engulf our Malaysian students on the spirit of serving the less fortunate kids as well as our community and nation in the upcoming future” said the student leader, E.Venkates Rao.

By the end of the day, all of us were dead tired, but the satisfaction of brightening someone’s day left a lasting impression on all of us. Sometimes we take things for granted and complain about the smallest setback we face. Knowing that these kids have almost nothing, and yet they are so carefree and grateful for something as simple as a sweet, really puts things into perspective. In a nutshell, this event was a success as we managed to achieve all the objectives we set out to accomplish. Most importantly, we managed to put smiles on 60 kids faces that day, and that feeling was beyond words.

What shall we do for our country in 2009

What shall we do for our country in the year of 2009....

Hoping for a better year ahead and a word of Thanks for the year 2008. It was a very unusual year, from the political tsunami of March 8 to the land slide of Bukit Antarabangsa 2008 has been a very unusual ride for all of us. I understand the pain & i just hope all this incidents will not repeat again . I believe here comes every nations responsibility towards the country in order to see a better Malaysia in 2009.

My wishes and Aspirations for 2009:

1) Hope see a better UNITY among Malaysians.

2) To focus more on youth development projects which could assist in molding a healthy character building among the youths who are the future leaders of Malaysia.

3) Hope to see our Malaysian youths changing their mindset to criticise constructively and contribute towards Nation building instead of just sitting back, commenting and complaining which will not make an effective change.

4) We need to improve the standard of our knowledge and exposure towards cultural, educational, social, political and economic awareness, if we are to be globally competitive.

5) To see more youths actively participating in the business sector and political arena to make effective changes for a better Malaysia, instead of losing smart Malaysians to other countries.

6) As to make all this effective, WE need to play our role in the year of 2009 in order to see a Better Malaysia tomorrow.

7) As a personal note, i guess i should look into losing weight since i have put on quite a lot recently and hope to start back golfing more frequently...

HAPPY NEW YEAR, to all my readers and Malaysians!

Deepavali Celebration in India - 2008

Malays unite for Diwali festivities

A SPARKLING START: Malaysians celebrate Diwali in the city on Thursday
Lakshmi Kumaraswami TNN Chennai:

Colourful rangolis and diyas adorn the entrance of the house. Children, dressed in their best clothes, run around waving sparklers in the air. Inside, everybody is all smiles, greeting each other with a cheerful ‘Happy Diwali’. The sound of crackers, laughter and the clink of glasses fill the air. The scene resembles a typical Diwali party. But this one’s a bit different. For 90% of the guest list isn’t even Indian. In fact, they are all Malaysian. The ‘Diwali Open House’ is an event Major S Manian, president of MASI (Malaysian Association of Southern India) has been hosting at his home in Chennai since 2002. “We have all the Malaysians living in the city over for dinner. They burst crackers and have a great time,” he says as he greets guests along with wife Leela. The festival, known only as Deepavali there, is celebrated in this manner even in Malaysia. “This festival is celebrated by everyone irrespective of race or religion,” says Anuar Kasman, consulgeneral of Malaysia in Chennai. Khairuddin, education consul for the Malaysian consulate adds that the festival coincides with other important festivals of the country. “Our country is a melting pot of cultures, so when Id and Deepavali coincide, we call it Deepa Raya,” he says. So how different is it celebrating the festival in India? “Well, people burst crackers, but that’s completely banned back home,” states Kasman. Khairuddin, who has been in the country only for two weeks, adds that celebrating the festival in India is more exotic. “And wet,” he adds with a laugh, indicating the weather. Wan Naimah Wan Daud, vice consul says the festival gives them a chance to dress up. “I’d love to wear a saree, but I need someone to tie it. So I’ll stick to this for now,” she says, showing off her pink salwar kameez. Noor Arif Mohammed Noor, director of tourism in the consulate says the festival is celebrated with pomp. “But in Malaysia, Malay, Chinese and Indian festivals are celebrated this way. And that makes us truly Asia,” he finishes.

KMC, Manglore & Manipal Recognization - RESTORED

The Union Ministry of Health (MoH) has restored the recognition of the Karnataka-based Kasturba Medical Colleges, which had been derecognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI), till 2013.

However, the Ministry had pruned the intake of the two colleges by half asking the management to admit only 100 students in its Mangalore College and 150 at its Manipal campus instead of the earlier allotted 250 seats each.

Speaking to newspersons here today, Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor of the Manipal University, which runs the two prestigious medical colleges, said the letter from MoH restoring the recognition till 2013 was received by the university yesterday.

He said the reduction in intake of the capacity was arbitrary with no reasons provided for the step. The admission process of KMC Colleges in Manipal and Mangalore had been completed on June 18 and they had admitted 500 students.

''Now, at stake is the future of 250 undergraduate students -- amongst India's brightest and best students. Also at stake is KMC, which is among the top five of the 285 medical colleges in the country. We have been singled out for no fault of ours and this is an unfair approach,'' Dr Ballal alleged.

The Pro Chancellor said he was confident the Union Government would take cognisance of the issues in entirety and support the KMC in its endeavour to remain a world class educational institution.

The MCI had derecognised the KMC last year citing lack of infrastrtucture, teaching staff and clinical facilities.

250 Manipal medicos may lose seats

The ministry has extended recognition to the KMC institutions till 2013 for their MBBS course. However, in a 500-strong batch of 2008-09, 250 students will have to be shown the door.

This order comes after a series of inspections at the KMC colleges, done by the regulatory body, the Medical Council of India and the state government.

"The regulatory authority is singling us out. We feel harassed and this treatment is singularly unfair," Anand Sudarshan, MD and CEO, Manipal University, said.

Since 1988, the KMCs have been permitted to admit 500 students, with 92 seats being allotted under the state government quota, as part of the CET quota.

Ruling out seeking redressal from the courts, Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor, Manipal University, said, "We stand by our students and have seen zero withdrawals from the programme. We will continue to have a dialogue with the ministry to resolve this issue."

Coping with “INDIAN-NESS”

East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet, ‘ said Kipling almost a century ago. For Malaysians who have secured admissions into Universities in India, the first brush with the ‘ Land of the Orient’ may fill them with fascination and thrill. But as soon as the ‘honeymoon’ phase will over, they might just face a culture shock after the first few weeks of your arrival. Lack of knowledge on what is appropriate or inappropriate may even bring about physical and emotional discomfort to the person. Here’s what you need to keep an eye for:

Indian Standard Time: Punctuality is not something the Indians swear by ( their 2 minutes can even become hoursssss). Turning up late for social occasions like marriages and parties, office meetings & etc – all these are typical examples, but this does not mean our professors will be late for class.

No Concept of Queuing: The right to jump a queue and shove our way forward is an inborn instinct among the Indians, be it in cinema, canteens, or even a Trade Centre (recently experienced). If you keep standing in a line, you will never get your work done.

Preference of Hierarchy: Indians tend to give a high importance to hierarchy, addressing teachers as ‘sir’ and ‘ma’am’ and this terms can be used even for the others as well rather then addressing people here as ‘uncle & aunty’ ‘bro & sis’.
‘sir & ma’am’ is a preferred way.

Overpricing Woes: Overcharging of items by shopkeepers and by auto drivers (tuk-tuk), especially for foreigners. Prepare yourself to bargain hard, starting with as low as 50% of the offered price and you might need to be a little harsh at times creating a small argument. In order to cope with the initial shock, the single most important thing is to remember to be flexible. I believe we should learn to expect the unexpected but have a positive outlook through it all.
Avoid unpleasant situations and always try to seek for a local friend’s help.

We have to accept the fact that everything will not be the same as in our home country, but the idea is to look out for certain similarities and positive points that they might think to be enjoyable and laudable. A great strategy would be to meet as many new people as possible, particularly look for the like-minded ones.

Integrating and getting involve in activities related to Malaysia would be the best way to shed off the ‘we are different & out of the country’ mask. Once this mask is off, cultural shocks won’t trouble you that much since you have created a so call Malaysian lifestyle and you will not really feel you are away from our country….

As far India is concern, Malaysians have an entity or a gateway to anytime join the Malaysian organizations to integrate and socialise as well as to create a good networking among the other Malaysians.
If you are a student, you may join the Malaysian Students Association of South India which they have regional chapters in Chennai, Salem, Bangalore, Mangalore, Manipal, Belgaum and Hyderabad.
If you are non-student, you may join the Malaysian Association of South India (MASI)

Despite all the initial hurdles, the long term experience is always worth it and it might always make you a better person or a Better-Malaysian-to-be…

Student Council of PIDC & Vinayaka Mission University, Salem – Newly formed

The PIDC students council & The Vinayaka Mission University Student Council was officially formed on the 6th of July 2008 which is a branch of the Malaysian Students Asso. Of South India to look into the welfare of Malaysian students in Salem.

They consist of 12 Executive council members and non executive council members to be formed soon.

I am proud to say that I have found energetic and young leaders who can be moulded to be much more professional in leadership skills, I personally believe that the new council members can perform very professionally in handling the student council more like cooperate company rather than a club or society base, I can see this friends of mine are very ambitious to be leaders rather then just a doctor.

I wish them All The Best and hope to work together in forming a better UNITY among our Malaysian students in South India as well as train our self to be tomorrow’s leader. Deep down our hearts, we are working towards creating more future leaders of Malaysia from the Malaysian Student Asso. of South India.

Therefore, I would like to seek your kind advise / assistance which could be helpful in moulding, WE the young generation to be leaders for a better MALAYSIA tomorrow.

Thank you.

Trip to Salem. 4th July - 7th July 2008

The 1st weekend of July 2008 was a very good experience travelling to Salem to visit our Malaysian students, arrange a dialog session with our new Consul General, to form a new working committee and as I was there, another new agenda came up whereby a couple of students wanted to meet Dato G.Palanivel and all this missions were successful.

4th of July 2008
I decided to visit Salem ignoring all the other agendas we had in Chennai and I packed my bags and left to the main bus stand hoping that I will get a ticket since many will be travelling during the weekend and you know India, nothing to mention about demand. Probably my luck was good and I was able to get a ticket to travel and that was the only ticket for an air conditioned bus left. I departed Chennai at 11pm.

5th July 2008
I arrived in Salem at 5.30AM and I was welcomed by 2 of my good Malaysian buddies, Ms.Amirtha and Mr.Yugesh who are also studying in Salem.
Thanks to them since they took the trouble to wake up so early in morning, travelled to town to welcome me. We continued with our breakfast session and then followed them to their hostel since thy have decided for me to stay with them and I couldn’t argue with them, so I followed and next I was welcomed by Mr.Yugesh’s roommate, Mr.Seelan who was wearing a Marijuana T-shirt and that still remains in my mind.
We continued our day with a delicious Indian lunch at a place called Selvi Mess and I did enjoy the Indian food which usually I don’t as we are surrounded with it.

The next session was to hop around looking for a suitable venue for a dialog session with the CG and almost late evening we were able to finalise for Chenney’s Gateway

Once that was done, I would say our main agenda for the day is over, next we were able to gather some of our Malaysian students which consist of Malays, Chinese and Indians in the hotel to welcome our Consul General and trust me he was shocked for the welcoming treatment with a lovely bouquet and chocolates to him by the Salem students and he invited all of them to have dinner together that night.

After dinner, we headed back to their hostel and the students called for an emergency meeting at 11pm mainly to discuss the issues to be raised and the speaker in-charge / person voicing out is also responsible to justify their stands and issues.

Look, how co-operative can they be, the initiative to call for a meeting at almost pass 11 in the night as I could see some with their sleepy faces but yet they were so committed in voicing out their issues of academic and non academic, I really salute them for their initiative and commitment.

After the late night meeting, I headed to the room as I though I could catch with some sleep as I was lack of sleep for the past 2 nights but I didn’t know that there was suppose to be another debate session in regards to PuteraMIC in the room which mainly participated by Mr.Vinowen, Mr.Manveer, Mr.Seelan, Mr.Yugesh and a few more guys shooting out questions on MIC and I am more than pleased to clear any doubts in regards to PuteraMIC as I will try my best to explain the current situation and how we youths should play a role which I believe rather then questioning what our politicians have done, we should try our level best to contribute towards building a better unity among our youths and concerntrate more on youth development projects which can benefit everyone. So lets try to plan and work effectively while creating a better unity rather then creating WH’ questions.

6th July 2008
The dialog session within our Malaysian students in Salem and the Consul General of Malaysia was scheduled at 8.30am, before that with a breakfast session. For the commitment and dedication the students have, 100% of their delegates were on time and infact they were arranging the sequence of issues to be raised with their speakers in order, looks like they have good management skills.

There were couple of issues raised in regards to academic, non-academic, lifestyle and etc. Besides that, The Consul General did brief about a few issues as well as shared his experience dealing with Malaysian students overseas.

Looking at the way our guys & girls voicing out very professionally and with their humble manner had cleared my doubt, this are the team of my buddies who can perform to turn the student council more into an organization which can create more leaders.

The day followed with a coffee session in Coffee World with a group of my friends and then a good chicken grill dinner with a couple of them as well. Since they took me for a good dinner, they did not forget to make me taste ‘biddah’ daun sireh with something filled inside which tasted very bitter and I couldn’t stand the taste, the guy by the name Mr.Yugesh is an expert of influencing people to try ‘bidah’ saying that its sweet and tasty, so beware of him…..:)

My weekend trip to Salem might have annoyed a couple of people as their nights were disturbed with emergency meetings without a good peaceful sleep, Tv programmes or etc. My sincere Apologizes to those who feel that I have disturbed your resting moments for the weekend.

Once again I really had a wonderful weekend and a memorable stay in Salem especially being with all my Malaysian buddies.

I Thank You all very much from my bottom of my heart for making it such a memorable trip especially to Amirtha, Yugesh, Seelan, Vinowen, Manveer, and all the others as well.

Thank you.

BLOGGERS’ AWARDS: A step in right direction

Since the March 8 elections, the blogsphere which hitherto remained an unexplored realm by politicians has now become an important facet in the battle of minds and votes.
MCPX
Recognising this, Putera MIC wants to expose more Indian youths to blogging and encourage them to be fair in their postings and content.
In view of this, the wing will be giving out the Manya Bloggers Awards for blogging excellence in August.
At present, most of the blogs which focus on issues pertaining to the Indian Malaysian community are highly critical of MIC, which suffered an electoral massacre losing 18 of its 28 seats.
The latest move by Putera MIC is seen as an attempt to regain lost ground, especially after losing support from the Indian youths.
This was evident when the wing announced that 50 percent of those in the running for the awards in the different categories were critical of MIC.
At a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today, Putera MIC chief P Kamalanathan said: "Many young Indians are still not aware of this (blogging)."
"We understand that bloggers want something good to happen in Malaysia. That is why we are encouraging fair blogging here. We are open to constructive criticism."
Nine categories
According to him, Indian Malaysian bloggers currently make up one percent of Malaysian bloggers and are mostly university students.
As for the awards, Kamalanathan said there are nine categories which cover areas such as socio-political, technology, photoblog, Tamil language and entertainment.
While the above categories are limited to Indian bloggers, two other categories - MIC Putera Choice Award and Readers' Choice Award - are open to all bloggers
The nominees have already been chosen based on suggestions from existing bloggers. The winners will be determined through a combination of a readers' poll (60 percent) and judges discretion (40 percent).
"There will be three judges who are apolitical, independent and bloggers themselves," said Kamalanathan."We will only reveal who the judges are a week before polling closes."
Polling begins at noon tomorrow and will continue until July 6. Readers can cast their votes at www.manyaawards.com.
Winners will be judged based on the quality of the articles, reactions from the public, popularity of the blog, content and framework.
Participation certificates, cash prices, vouchers and trophies await the participants and winners.

Creating the 'UNITY' among Malaysian Indian Students Overseas

Creating the 'UNITY' among Malaysian Indian Students Overseas

I am a Malaysian student studying in South India and I am glad to say that we have formed an organization mainly for all the Malaysian Indians studying abroad. The main purpose of the organization will be to look into the welfare of our students as we assist them in various ways through the embassy and organize celebrations such as Deepavali, Ponggal and etc which is mainly to UNITE our Malaysian Indians. To date, i can say that almost all the students know each other no matter where they are and very cooperative towards helping each other.
This has created an Unity among The Malaysian Students in Chennai.
I would like to suggest to form the same UNITY for all our Malaysian Indian students who are studying overseas in order to stay united from now onwards and form a professional networking opportunity among us.
This will also allow our Malaysian Indians to keep track on what's happening in our country as well as voice out their views even though they could be miles away.
By this way, we will always have the chance to keep in touch and update ourselves as well as
when a person is to back to malaysia, he/she will no longer be a stranger without knowing issues.
Therefore, I wish to seek your kind opinion on how shall we form and work on this.Besides tht, i would also like to know HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY A ROLE IN THIS AGENDA....?
Looking forward to hear from you....
Thank you.
